If you use Scout's database driver with #[SearchUsingFullText] columns on Postgres, Model::search() ranks results with ts_rank(...). Postgres has to compute the rank for every matching row before it can sort and limit, so a common word on a table with millions of rows can turn a fast GIN index lookup into a timeout.

If you don't need relevance order, skip Scout for that query and call the query builder directly:

Post::query()
    ->whereFullText(['title', 'body'], $term)
    ->latest()
    ->limit(50)
    ->get();

whereFullText still uses the GIN index, and ordering by an indexed column lets Postgres stop early. Run EXPLAIN ANALYZE on both versions with a common search term to see the difference.
