> When you send JSON bodies through `Http::pool()`, the body is encoded while the requests are built. If any one payload contains an invalid UTF-8 byte (common in scraped text, RSS feeds and transcripts), the JSON encoding throws `InvalidArgumentException` before any request is sent. It doesn't come back as a failed response for that request, so code that only inspects responses never sees it. In a queue worker or long-running command, the process exits, restarts, picks up the same item and crashes again.

> The `mb_convert_encoding` call with the same source and target encoding replaces invalid sequences with `?`.
