> A scope that ranks rows with a window function is fine for a batch, but reusing it for a single-row check can be very slow on Postgres.

> Postgres cannot push the outer `id = ?` filter through the window function, so the subquery ranks the whole table for each check. Run once per row on a hot path, that adds up fast.
>
> Fix: give the scope an optional group key and filter inside the ranked subquery.

> The result is identical, because ranking is per group anyway, but only one group is ranked. Check with `EXPLAIN` that the WindowAgg now sees only that group's rows.
